TRAINING METHODS
CoolWag uses Positive Reinforcement training on puppies and pet dogs that need to learn manners. Our training is a games-based approach using science-based practices combining Pavlov's Classical Conditioning and Skinner's Operant Conditioning.
The foundation of our training programs is modeled around Ian Dunbar, legendary veterinarian, animal behaviorist and dog trainer. Our end goal is for your dog to look to you for guidance on everything, be socialized so that they are comfortable and confident with the world they live in (people, dogs, noise, etc.). This will enable you to walk your dog in the park or the Downtown Square with hundreds of people.
For behavior modification or super stubborn pups, our trainers can help you teach your pup in a way that it's "their idea"... take that stubbornness and use it.
Our trainers us the Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive (LIMA) strategy and any tool that we may recommend, we discuss with the parents first.

AKC S.T.A.R. PUPPY, INTERMEDIATE
GROUP CLASSES & OTHER GROUP CLASSES (WITH FUTURE START DATES)
We offer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Series Class and offer CGC Testing through the AKC. This is a group class where you and your pup will learn the basic commands and get a chance for some socialization with other humans and pups.
Other group classes include Intermediate, Sports such as swimming, dock diving, agility etc.
PUPPY BOARDING SCHOOL
Puppy Boarding School (through our Board & Train program): Two-Week Program - Puppy Pre-K during the day with all the night-time potty training included. Great solution if you want to get some sleep and get your pup the foundation for learning "how to be" in the house.
Every interaction is a game, intended to instill calm and looking to you for direction.
Work on Manners: Potty, Leash, Door, Dinner, Crate, No Biting and Beginning to Sit/Stay/Come, Off and Leave-It.
No guarantee of potty training but we have been very successful if you follow our process.
BOARD & TRAIN (6+ MONTHS OLD)
Your dog will live in our "home setting" training environment so that every interaction is an opportunity to learn and reinforce the "rules" of the game. We will give them a good foundation and understanding of the commands if you are just too busy or you want a more focused training program. You will then continue it at home!
This is a great for a dog that has gone through their adolescent stage and is ready to take these games a little more seriously. The dog does not need to have already been trained but to get the most out of the time, he/she should have a longer attention span than a typical six-month old puppy!
TRAINING DURING DAYCARE OR BOARDING
Training during daycare can be a great choice if you don't need the intensity/emersion of a board and train and just can't find the time to practice what you learned in the private lesson or group classes. This is great to work on a specific behavior or two (such as loose leash walking or leash reactivity or "off").
DOCK DIVING / SWIMMING
Teach them to swim or go for jumping off the dock! We also have a speed game (Hydro Dash) and a height/distance game (Air Retrieve) or just bring them to play in the water!
Our pool is open May-October. We would keep it open longer but the water gets very cold and can turn dogs off of the pool/swimming. So we close it!
